More Info. re. Republican-Taliban Congressman

Someone else posted this story here earlier today, but I wanted to update as I found some additional information re. this terrorist collaborator:

"A former congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday on charges of working for an alleged terrorist fundraising ring that sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.

Mark Deli Siljander, a Michigan Republican when he was in the House, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about being hired to lobby senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists....

Siljander, who served in the House from 1981-1987, was appointed by President Reagan to serve as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations for one year in 1987....

Siljander was elected to Congress initially with the support of fundamentalist Christian groups, and said at the time he won because "God wanted me in..."

The additional information I found:

It looks like our Republican friend has ties to the fundie/theocratic "Coalition on Revival" as well as the "Rev." Moon (ie. owner of Washington Times).  The COR agenda includes the abolition of public schools, the IRS, and the Federal Reserve. The NCC also calls for taking over county governments and the establishment of "Christian"-controlled county militias. In 1986 ... Siljander taped a message soliciting campaign support from ministers to "help break the back of Satan.":

The COR’s Steering Committee Members list reads like a "who’s who" of the "American Taliban":  Dr. D. James Kennedy, Ph.D., Pastor Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church; Rev. Donald Wildmon, President American Family Association, etc. ... and of course, "Mr., Mark Siljander, Former Member of Congress":

I have always thought that there really is very little difference between the Taliban/al-Qaida fundamentalists and the religious fundamentalists in this country.  It's interesting that we have here a person who appears to overlap the boundaries of both groups.
